A native Montanan, I was raised on a ranch in Eastern Montana which helped shape me into the artist that I am today. My life was filled with raising livestock, 4-H horse projects, and rodeos. As a self-taught artist my inspiration was focused on animals, especially horses. I have always had a passion for art, but didn’t develop an interest in drawing until the age of 19. Wildlife has been included in my body of work, but the Western style of life has been my main focus. I try to capture the awe and intensity of life in my drawings while portraying the beauty and reality of ranch life. Attention to detail is the most important aspect of my work. I draw on my ranching experience in striving for accuracy and realism. I fell in love with graphite and have continued to expand the use of the medium. I use the simple, yet complex, medium because I love the detail and control I am able to obtain with a sharp tip. Not to mention the use of light and shadow to create contrast and ultimately shape and texture. I also believe that the striking contrast of black and white is classic and timeless, but like to add a modern element by occasionally adding a splash of color to give my work a unique twist. Even though I love working in black and white, I have always had an interest in the wonderful contrast in colors. I have recently begun to complete pieces with Prisma colored pencils. This allows me to create pencil art works in full color. After graduating high school, I attended Carroll College in Helena, MT to obtain a nursing degree. After a few years I discovered that I wasn’t on the right path so with the support of my husband and family, I decided to change course and focus on my artwork. I was accepted into the Montana Artrepreneur Program in 2012. This program helped expand my knowledge and skills in ways that I couldn’t have imagined. Since then, I have attended the MAP Gathering in Helena, MT, numerous shows around Montana, and have even been accepted into the The Great Western Living and Design Show in Great Falls, MT. I draw when the inspiration strikes, channeling memories from my time on the ranch. Each piece is a reflection of me, my artistic vision, and my creativity. I feel incredibly blessed to pursue life as an artist.
