Heart of the West Art Show & Auction

After establishing success as art show event coordinators during the annual Western Art Week in Great Falls, MT from 2010-2014, Western Masters has moved on to organizing two new shows at different venues: the Heart of the West Art Show & Auction at the Best Western Plus Grantree Inn in Bozeman, MT August 11-13, 2016, and the Coeur d'Alene Resort in Idaho September 1-4, 2016. Both shows will feature Quick Finish artist demonstrations on Friday and Saturday and live art auctions Saturday, Aug. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 3. Over 60 juried artists and galleries at each show, including many previous Western Masters participants, will exhibit their newest body of work in convention room booths. This format gives collectors and artists a unique opportunity to form connections and friendships while surrounded by other art aficionados. A live auction in Bozeman the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 13 and in CDA Sept. 3 will offer ~100 lots of contemporary and consigned artwork, plus 25 pieces created onsite during the show during Quick Finish artists’ demonstrations to benefit local non-profit organizations. Use code "WILDART" for special block rates at the Coeur d'Alene Resort for that weekend.

If you're unfamiliar with the Japanese art of woodblock prints, then I encourage you to meet artist Daryl Howard Art: Japanese Woodblock Prints and Collage in person at our Bozeman event.

Woodblock printmaking is an ancient technique dating back to the 2nd century BC in China. In 770 A.D., woodblock prints first appeared in Japan, a country that has enjoyed a long tradition of woodblock printing. Ms. Howard's technique of woodblock printing is exclusively the traditional Japanese method which she studied in Tokyo, Japan under Master Hodaka Yoshida. A woodcarving is done for each color in the print. Watercolor and rice paste are applied with a Japanese brush to the wood. A dampened piece of handmade mulberry Kizuki paper is placed on the block and pressed, transferring the color to the paper. Two sides of each piece of paper are exactingly cut at right angles for the registration of the paper to the woodblock. The precise hand-registration of the paper to each block must be repeated many times throughout the creation of one print; a minute miscalculation at any step in the printing process will result in a ruined print. Daryl's signature of 22K gold, silver, or copper leaf is applied last as embellishment to the print.

Cheryl King's artwork is ALMOST as lively and colorful as her personality! She paints in oils, and prefers to paint subjects that have a heart beat. When she mixes them with glass and other 3 dimensional objects, there's absolutely no denying their incredible energy! You're never going to believe this, but Rachel Harvey Art is a CPA! After taking a few electives in college, she enjoyed painting but turned to accounting as a profession. It wasn't until years later, after taking an art class through community education that she realized her passion might just need a little more nurturing. Voila! As you can see, she's become a very talented artist specializing in landscapes. I don't know about you, but I find this story to be VERY inspirational!

Have you always wanted to be an artist? Come to our Bozeman show and meet Rachel in person. She will probably inspire you to take the leap. Be sure to see more of her work by liking her Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/RachelHarveyArt/

"Bathtub in the Bridgers" and "Sunday House" are by the SELF TAUGHT, 20 something artist Morgan Irons. Born in Durango, CO in 1991, she works predominantly in the medium of painting.

"Following graduation from college, Irons lived and worked at a remote fishing camp in Alaska. It was there that she discovered her affinity for a simpler lifestyle and prompted her move to Montana. There she resides in a cabin on 50 wild acres with her dog Bear. Without so much as a phone signal, Irons spent her 23rd year focused on developing as a realist figurative painter."

You can meet Morgan in person and see her breathtaking work at the Bozeman show. I wonder if she'll be bringing Bear with her? Let's ask her on her Facebook Page Morgan Irons Fine Art: https://www.facebook.com/morgan.irons
